‘Here you have’ email worm spreads quickly
September 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment
Security experts warned Thursday of a fast-spreading email worm, the first large outbreak of this type in nearly a decade. The worm appears in email messages with the subject "Here you have," and contains what seems to be a link to an Adobe PDF file. In fact the link takes the victim to a Web page hosted on the members.multimania.co.uk domain that then tries to download a screensaver (.scr) file. If the user agrees to installing that file, he is then infected by the worm, which mails itself to his … [Read More...]

“Here you have” – not a sex tape, but a worm
September 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment
We're raising our threat level by a notch. Not something that we do as often as we used to. There are several reasons for this decision, but one of them really stands out. We've identified a worm called VBMania. This might not sound like anything much, but in contrast to most worms today, it spreads via email. Real old school. Additionally, it works on the the principle of "download and run". The worm spreads by sending emails from the infected computer. The messages have a subject line of "Here … [Read More...]
Basics of vulnerability management
September 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment
The more apps companies deploy, the more complicated vulnerability management becomes. In the rush to find every security hole and seal it off from potential hackers, it's easy to let something important slip through. That's especially true if you're an IT administrator juggling several tasks of which security is one. Security practitioners can't catch everything. But by breaking vulnerability management down to the basic parts, it may be possible to mount a more effective defense. CSO attended … [Read More...]

NMAP Database Output : XML TO SQL
September 10, 2010 by · Leave a Comment
SQL support has been a much requested feature of NMAP in the Redspin office. While a number of tools exist to support NMAP SQL output, their database format has left much to be desired. Using SQLite, Perl's DB and the NMAP Parser module, our tool extracts all supported fields in an NMAP XML file and creates a user-friendly database format. The resulting database can then be queried directly using SQLite in order to extract relevant information. View full post on Last 10 Submissions RSS Feed … [Read More...]
