Website Security – The 3 Hour Course To Making Money Fighting Hackers

Website Security

According to Wordmeters.com there are over 1,073,963websites on the internet as of September 1st, 2016.   This milestone was first reached in September of 2014, as confirmed by NetCraft in its October 2014 Web Server Survey and first estimated and announced by Internet Live Stats (see the tweet from the inventor of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee).  Think about this.  How many people do you personally know that has a website?  How many business cards do you have, that has a website address written on it?

Today, people will register a domain name and setup a website before they register their LLC or Corporation.  Individuals who do not even own a business may have a personal websites/blog where they be discussing receipts, parenting ideas or even showing off their stamp collection.  Going back 15 years ago when a person watched a television commercial there would be a toll free 800 number display at the end of the commercial.  Today when you watch a commercial on TV a website address will be displayed during the entire commercial.

Hacker Stolen Data

What can a hacker get from a hacked website?

The website AmIHackerProof.com says that over 4,050 websites are hacked everyday.  Most of these websites could have prevented a hacker for taking down there pride joy.   The reason why 80% of websites are hacked, is because the person or company that may have developed the website are not security experts.  Their job is to develop the best looking websites within the clients budget.

Here is what a hacker can get from a website:

@ Username and passwords – this includes the Admin password that is used to maintain the website.

@ Customer Emails – if you allowed visitors to enter their email address in order to receive your newsletter, the hacker can download and then delete all the email addresses.

eCommerce – if you are selling product or services on your website that allows visitors to enter their credit card number, hackers can steal all credit card information.

Merchant Service – hackers have hacked into a website and have changed the merchant service the website owner may be using.  As an example they have changed the Paypal email address to the hackers Paypal email address.  The website owner would not even know until he just stops getting sells.

@ SEO – a hacker can change all your SEO, so your website will not show up when people are looking for you on the internet, such as Google, Yahoo or Bing.

@ Contact – even if you are running a simple website and just has your company information including your company address and phone number, a hacker can change your phone number to your competitors phone number.  We have also seen where hackers have changed a phone number on a website to dial an adult party line.
