A Millbrook woman has been charged with identity theft after an investigation that led to Lawrence, Kansas.
City police say a woman in her 20s contacted the service in April, alleging that her identification had been stolen. Police determined that bank accounts had been opened in the woman’s name, a vehicle had been purchased and loan applications had been filled out.
Police say the fraud added up to $75,000
A suspect, known to the woman who made the complaint, then went to Lawrence. City police worked with police there to make an arrest.
The suspect was arrested Sept. 15 and brought back to Peterborough Sept. 22
Sarah Elaine Tomaszewski, 27, of Millbrook, was charged with identity theft, two counts of fraud over $5,000 and two counts of personation with intent. She appeared court and was released on bail, with another court appearance Oct. 13.
A fraud scheme has been reported in the Peterborough area, city police say.
The scam sees businesses taking orders over the phone, with someone picking up the order before the company discovers that the credit card wasn’t valid.
Five local small businesses have reported this over the summer, police say.

Police were called after a driver hit a garbage shed and a concrete pole at a Marsdale Dr. apartment complex Monday at about 8:15 a.m.
Officer located a suspect at 10 a.m. near Royal Dr.
Dawn Marie Meadus, 38, of Marsdale Dr.,, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mg blood alcohol concentration.
She was released and will appear in court Oct. 20.
A city police officer on patrol pulled over a vehicle in the Beavermead Park parking lot after noticing erratic driving Sept. 21 at 12:15 a.m.
The driver was given a breath test.
Mitchell Peter Frost, 27, of Chemong Rd., was arrested and charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mg blood alcohol concentration.
He was released and will appear in court Oct. 13.
