Students and staff arriving to Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce Thursday morning were greeted by extra security after a series of threats were made on social media.
St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara was one of the several deputies on campus.
He says the matter came to their attention on Wednesday after several students at the school reported receiving threats online from another person who is also believed to be a student there.
Mascara says the person threatened to bomb the school and kill a large number of people.
After a thorough investigation, the Sheriff says deputies found no credibility to any of the statements made online and they are now working to track the IP address to find out who posted the threats.
Mascara says whoever it is could now be facing charges.
Sheriff’s deputies as well as school officials say the safety of students is their number one priority and they will not take matters like this lightly.
Law enforcement will continue to monitor the school’s campus throughout the day and additional deputies will also be on site Thursday afternoon when students are dismissed.
