Role Summary/Purpose: Under limited supervision, lead a team of software developers who design, develop and enhance software computer programs, databases, and technical software design documentation using advanced knowledge of customer needs and product applications; understand and promote the software development life cycle process. As a member of the Epicor Retail Custom Development team, you will and/or lead a team of software developers to customize Epicor Retail products for customer needs and/or develop and maintain custom module for Epicor Retail Products. Most development is done in C# or Visual Basic .NET. Visual Basic, C++, Java, and ASP.NET are also used for some applications. To keep our competitive edge, you will be required to leverage newest Microsoft platform features with Windows 7/8 and SQL 2008/12, or extending our mobile product offerings on other platforms such as iOS. Essential Responsibilities: • Lead a team of software developers through small to large projects • Develops detailed functional and technical specifications based on communication with the client. • Develops detailed software and database design specifications based on functional and technical specifications; utilizes one or more development languages. • Ability to analyze detail design specifications, provide feedback, and perform the work required from the design. • Review functional design specifications to produce functional design and/or detailed software design, which optimizes resource usage, considers the customer upgrade path, and clearly enhances system controls and integrity. • Writes reports to communicate functional design, detailed design, entity relation diagrams, data flow diagrams, general processing instructions, testing recommendations, documentation recommendations, system limitations, and miscellaneous other internal documentation. • Analyzes requirements and clarify scope and breadth of work tasks with business analysts and project managers. • Provides work direction and guidance to software engineers peers. • Reviews code and perform an adequate level of unit, functional and integrated testing to ensure quality standards are attained. • Learns and employs knowledge of the business segment targeted by the software application. • Reviews user documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. • Create database tables to ensure database meets design requirements. • Attend design review meetings to assist in identifying design issues and programming methods that will improve work productivity and product quality. • Participate in process assessment programs and make recommendations to improve software development methods. • Identify and resolve programming problems by following routine methods, established system development methodologies, and through the guidance of more senior software engineering staff. • Aid in creating specifications for conversion of Legacy database objects to business objects component architecture. • Teaches product training relative to area of expertise for internal resources. • Ability to travel 20%.
