State and federal agencies extended their warnings about an outbreak of Hantavirus in Yosemite National Park, as a third death was attributed to the disease.

The National Park Service (NPS) said on Sept. 6 that it had received confirmations from national and state public health agencies of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) cases linked to eight people who stayed one night or more in Yosemite since June of this year. HPS is the deadliest Hantavirus complication.

On Sept. 4, the NPS had reported six cases and two deaths from the disease.
