TSA explains additional liquid screening in airport gate areas
The TSA responded on July 5 to criticism of its random additional screening of drinks bought by passengers after they’ve passed through security checkpoints.
News reports of passengers who have had drinks they have purchased in secure gate areas screened by TSA agents prompted the agency to explain the procedures. In a blog post, TSA spokesman “Blogger Bob” Burns said the practice is not redundant, but part of the agency’s tactics to inject some unpredictability into the layers of security already in place.
