30-year-old Jerry Paul Manuel Jr. of Celeste Eufola Road and 27-year-old Mercedes Leigh Jenkins of Loray Lane, both from Statesville, were both arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. Manuel is charged with three counts of identity theft and Jenkins is charged with one count of financial card theft and four counts of identity theft.
According to a news release issued today (Thursday, September 8), on August 14 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received an incident report of Financial Card Theft. According to the incident report the victim had noticed her credit card missing and when she made contact with the bank there had already been several charges made to the card.
During the investigation Detectives worked with businesses throughout Iredell County to retrieve video from the fraudulent transactions. The victim then later identified one of the suspects as a family member, Mercedes Jenkins. Detectives then identified the second suspect as Jerry Paul Manuel Jr.
Manuel was released on $10,000.00 unsecured bond. Jenkins was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under $10,000 secured bond . Manuel will appear in District Court September 15, Jenkins has a District Court appearance September 26.
