U.S. and Czech Republic increase nuclear smuggling defenses

Under an agreement signed on Sept. 7 with the U.S. nuclear security agency, the Czech Republic will receive portable radiation detection gear to help prevent illicit trafficking of special nuclear and other radioactive material.
The country signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. to strengthen efforts in the fight against nuclear terrorism, said the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman and Czech First Deputy Minister of the Interior Jaroslav Hruška signed the MOU.
