Hello, everybody. I’m here with your Thursday edition of the Sachem Daily. Keep reading to find out all the community information you need to know right now, including updates on:

  • Three people killed in single-vehicle Holtsville crash.
  • Suffolk cyberattack hackers demanded $2.5M from Suffolk County.
  • Brookhaven Town celebrates Hanukkah with Menorah lightning

But first, today’s weather:

Cloudy with afternoon rain. High: 48 low: 45.

Here are the top three stories in Sachem today:

  1. Three people killed in single-vehicle Holtsville crash. The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday night on the northbound side of Nichols Rd. near Division St. All three were pronounced dead at the scene and we will keep you updated on this story. (News 12)
  2. Suffolk cyberattack hackers demanded $2.5M from Suffolk County. The hackers demanded the money in exchange for not completely decimating the county’s systems. County Executive Steve Bellone would not comply with their demands. “Payment is no guarantee that the criminal actors will honor their commitment or that they won’t come back later to extract an additional demand,” he added. “But more important, we don’t know who these criminal actors are. Are they terrorists? Are they engaging in sex trafficking? Are they engaged in activities that are hostile to our nation’s interests?” The attack has cost Suffolk County $6M in total. (Sachem Patch)
  3. Brookhaven Town celebrates Hanukkah with Menorah lightning. The lighting was held at Town Hall in Farmingville on Tuesday and Rabbi Mendy Goldberg of the Lubavitch of the East End/Chabad House of Coram led the event, which featured traditional Hanukkah songs and stories, refreshments, and hot latkes and donuts.
