Several leaders of India’s opposition parties, including Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena and the Indian National Congress on Tuesday (October 31) said that they received a notification – “State-sponsored attackers may be targeting your iPhone” – on their iPhones. They alleged that the government was spying on the opposition leaders, causing a furore and debate on social media. Apple has already issued a statement on the matter. Spying is done by sophisticated apps that hide themselves in your phones. But here are some signs you can check to know whether your phone is hacked.

Phone’s battery is draining faster than usual

The first and probably one of the easiest ways to check whether your phone has been compromised is by looking at the battery behaviour. If you have started to charge your phone too often, or if the phone’s battery is draining faster than usual, it could be possible that some malware or fraudulent apps may be using malicious code that tends to drain a lot of power.

It should be noted that you must first ensure that there are not a huge number of apps running in the background because too many apps running in the background also eat battery.

If you see posts made by your account that you don’t remember making, it could be a sign that there is a breach in your defence. If you are unable to send/ receive emails from your phone, hackers may have compromised your device.

It is a good practice to remove old, not usable photos from your phones. But in case you come across photos and videos in your gallery that you don’t remember taking, practice caution as it could be a sign that someone may have control over your camera. Similarly, if your phone’s flash is turned on abruptly, it could be possible that someone is remotely controlling your device.
