More than 5,000 patient records at Sentara Healthcare were involved in a cybersecurity breach, according to a news release from the hospital system.
Vascular and/or thoracic patients seen between 2012 and 2015 are affected. A third-party vendor experienced the breach, which was discovered Nov. 17.
The accessed information includes patients’ names, medical record numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, procedure information, demographic information and medications, according to the release.
Sentara has notified the people affected. The company has a toll-free phone number for patients to call with questions: 844-319-0134. Patients can call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The vendor told Sentara that it is enhancing its system security, according to the release.
