A 65-year-old man was murdered by two unidentified men at his residence at Therkumadam in Madurai on Tuesday.

Police said the deceased was identified as M. Pongudi of Arapalayam. On Tuesday afternoon, one of the unidentified men under the guise of inquiring about an address, spoke to the deceased’s wife and she explained the route to him.

After an hour, when Pongudi was inside his house, the unidentified man came to the house along with another man.

Pongudi invited the men inside the house and while talking to them, the duo attacked him several times with a machete and ran away.

Hearing the cry of her husband, the deceased’s wife who was working inside the kitchen rushed to the room where the men were speaking to each other. She saw her husband lying dead on the ground.

She informed the Karimedu police. Police said that the deceased’s wife informed them that the man who had inquired about the address earlier was one among the two unidentified men who hacked her husband to death. Police said that they had secured a man for investigation based on the details provided by the woman and through the CCTV footage available at the location. The investigation is under way.
