Aberdeenshire rail restoration campaign takes big step forward after funding boost | #childpredator | #onlinepredator | #sextrafficing

Plans to reinstate former rail routes between Aberdeen and Buchan have received a huge boost with the contract for a new Sustainable Transport Study awarded.

Campaign for North East Rail (CNER) proposed ambitious plans to bring back the lines from the Granite City to Peterhead and Fraserburgh and have long championed the bid.

They have also pushed for significant rail infrastructure upgrades right across the north-east among communities and with policymakers.

CNER’s successful application has this week seen the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Fund award £250,000 for their latest phase of feasibility work.

The study, which will be undertaken in partnership with infrastructure consultancies AECOM and Stantec, will look to explore in depth the possibility of passenger and freight services north of Dyce and towards Peterhead and Fraserburgh for the first time in over 50 years.

It would echo similar projects that have seen the railway line reopened in the Scottish Borders and the new Leven branch in Fife which is currently under construction.
