Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, has alerted Indiana residents of a recent increase in hacking scams.

The scams, known as “phantom hacking,” involve scammers who pretend to be tech support, financial institutions, or government officials to deceive victims and gain access to their money.

Older people are often the main target.

According to the FBI, they have received approximately 19,000 complaints related to tech support scams since the beginning of this year through June, with an estimated $542 million stolen from victims.
