Aldine ISD Unveils School Bond 2023 Logo – Aldine ISD | #schoolsaftey

The district’s bond logo captures moving forward, preparing for the future, and creating more student opportunities.

On August 15, 2023, the Aldine ISD Board of Trustees called for a $1.8 billion bond election on November 7, 2023. The bond has three propositions that would fund targeted projects throughout the district for voters to consider. The school bond package will focus on safety and security, facility enhancements, and instructional technology.

Looking Toward the Future

Aldine ISD has been proudly serving students and the community since 1935. As expected, many of the district’s buildings are old and weren’t built for today’s standards (e.g., central HVAC systems, older pipes systems). In fact, according to a recent facilities assessment, 25 of the 83 schools are over 50 years old. The facilities assessment indicated what district leaders had known — the age of the buildings has been leading to challenges now and in the foreseeable future, both from an infrastructure and security standpoint. Given the state of older school buildings’ infrastructure and the amount of dollars in repairs necessary to fix them, it’s a formidable task the district is facing. In several cases, efforts to modernize or revamp buildings often cost nearly as much as simply replacing them.

The district seeks to continue fostering safe and effective learning environments that inspire the next generations to lead fulfilled lives. Classrooms look vastly different today than they did 50 years ago. Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney stated that the bond is generally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, with newer schools able to last 40 years or longer. If the community approves the Bond 2023 package in the November elections, district leaders will plan for facilities enabling staff to deliver high-quality education and enhance students’ educational experiences. She emphasized that the bond would enable AISD to create safer, healthier, and inspiring facilities that improve student learning and positively impact teacher productivity and top-talent recruitment.

Long-Range Planning Committee

The Long-Range Planning Committee (LRPC), comprised of dedicated stakeholders, determined the Bond 2023 package and its projects. They met to review the facilities assessment, research, plan, and, finally, present a proposal to the Aldine ISD Board of Trustees that addressed the many needs of Aldine. “We are in a position to move Aldine forward because of the individuals that comprised the Long-Range Planning Committee — thank you for your time, experience, and input,” said Superintendent Goffney.

The Why: #MyAldine, Your Aldine, Our Aldine

Goffney stated that the bond package would help the district move forward with increased safety and security measures and provide modern learning environments that students and staff are proud to call their own and look forward to coming to. She added that the district needs technology that supports, amplifies, and expands the impact of teaching practices so that students are future-ready in an increasingly competitive job market.

“This bond represents the next chapter in the story of #MyAldine. It is how we fulfill our vision of providing choices and opportunities for future generations.

“A bond is much more than just transforming buildings and infrastructure. It is an affirmation that, as a community, we are committed to providing our students with the learning environments they need to continue moving forward and be future-ready.”

Bond 2023 Logo

This bond is the next chapter in the story of #MyAldine. It is how we fulfill our vision of providing choices and opportunities for future generations.

The Bond 2023 logo borrows elements from the Aldine ISD logo, such as the pencil pointing forward, which is also a nod to the district’s five-year strategic plan, A New Way Forward, developed to ensure all AISD students have access to high-quality schools and learning experiences that prepare them for their futures; graduating with choices and opportunities. The bold font symbolizes the community’s confidence in AISD and its future.

Visit the Bond 2023 Webpage for Information and Upcoming Community Meetings

AISD launched a Bond 2023 webpage, AldineISD.org/Bond2023, showing the most current information and updates, including individual projects, renderings, a calendar of community meetings, a tax calculator, FAQs with information about voting, and a way to ask questions and receive answers.

The district urges community members to be on the lookout for dates and times for upcoming Bond 2023 Community Meetings in September and October, where AISD leaders and LRPC members will share information and receive feedback directly from the community.

Additionally, campus websites will be updated to include how each school will benefit from the bond proposals.

If voters approve Bond 2023, Aldine ISD will inform the community as the work unfolds.
