Since his ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez got back together with her early-aughts ex, Ben Affleck, it seems that Alex Rodriguez has also turned to a former flame for comfort reportedly growing “closer” to his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that his ex-wife also apparently “wasn’t the biggest fan” of his relationship with the pop star.
According to an insider who spoke to Us Weekly, “Now that J. Lo’s out of the picture, [Cynthia] is spending more time with the kids and Alex altogether.” The former couple are currently focused on trying to give their two daughters, 16-year-old Natasha and 13-year-old Ella, more time together as a family unit. “He’ll invite her to accompany them to certain events or just to go out to eat,” the source explained. “It makes the girls happy too to see their parents getting along well and getting to be together as a family again.” While the former MLB player has definitely been leaning on his ex-wife since his breakup with Lopez, the source clarified that he “doesn’t need support to get him through a breakup.” They added, “He’s a strong guy and has a lot going on in his life. He’s more so hanging with Cynthia because she and [her husband] Angel [Nicolas] keep him company and are part of his inner circle that he trusts.”
But Scurtis and Rodriguez weren’t always on the best of terms. The athlete and the former teacher were married from 2002 to 2008 when Scurtis filed for divorce citing “extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct,” even claiming that Rodriguez “emotionally abandoned his wife and children.” Since then, however, the pair have apparently worked out their issues and are now closer than ever. “Alex and his ex are just good friends and work well at coparenting,” yet another source told Us Weekly. “He has a lot of respect for her husband and they’ve gotten closer as friends. Cynthia and Alex’s relationship started off very messy, but they’ve certainly got closer in the past year or so.” Rodriguez and Scurtis were first spotted hanging out together two months after he and Lopez officially called off their engagement, and have since made it a regular activity. Earlier this month, the pair proved just how good of friends they’ve become when Rodriguez posted a photo of the two of them together on his Instagram Stories talking about the 54-day fitness challenge they’d both just completed. He wrote over the shot, “Cynthia is a world class mommy to our girls…wrapping ice though?!?!?! LOL.”
