A Bristol Borough man allegedly exposed by an amateur sleuth group has been charged by police.

On Monday at 2:06 a.m., Bristol Borough police were called to Pond Street to meet with a group of people who said they had a man there who wanted to meet with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl for sex.

The group, which went by the name “Predator Poachers,” reportedly had been chatting with a Bristol Borough man for two to three months through a chatroom and then text messages. The group reported that the man wanted to meet with a teenage girl for the purpose of having sex with her, according to court papers.

Bristol Borough police took the man the amateur sleuths found back to the station.

The man – identified as William J. Rago Jr., 45, of Bristol Borough – spoke with investigators for about 45 minutes after daybreak Monday, police said.

During the investigative interview, Rago reportedly said he was chatting and texting with a person he believed to be named “Summer” and who was 13 years old.

Police said Rago told investigators he sent naked photos of himself and had explicit conversations with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Rago was brought before District Judge Frank Peranteau late Monday morning on charges of attempted statutory sexual assault, attempted unlawful contact with a minor, attempted corruption of minors, and criminal use of a communication facility. He was held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $50,000 bail.

In recent years, self-styled amateur predator hunting groups have popped up around the nation. Their encounters often are recorded for social media and can draw large audiences.

Groups have made past videos in the Levittown-area, and some have led to arrests.

Predator Poachers is based in Texas and has numerous well-viewed videos posted on social media.

Editor’s Note: All individuals arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The story was compiled using information from police and public court documents.
