The latest update, Android app version 2.20.117, reveals two features — ‘Protect Backup’ and ‘Advanced Search.’ Both these features are under development as of now, says WABetaInfo.
WhatsApp Protect Backup feature
As part of this feature, WhatsApp will soon allow its users to protect their WhatsApp backup with a passcode, which basically aims to protect their chat backup, which is saved on Google Drive. As per the screenshot provided, users will need to create at least 8-character long password that will also be case sensitive.
Readers must note that WABetaInfo claims that the password that the users set will not be saved in either WhatsApp or Facebook servers. This means that if they lose the password, they cannot recover their chat history from the backup.
WhatsApp Advanced Search Mode
This feature has already been rolled out to iPhone users and is now making its way to Android handsets as well. The ‘Advanced search mode’ will allow users to search for photos, audios, links, gifs, videos and documents right from the main home screen.

Other than the two aforementioned features, this update also shows that the app will not allow frequently forwarded images, videos, documents and voice messages to be automatically downloaded. As of now, the app allows users to auto-download all types of media files.
Also, the WABetaInfo reveals that this beta update of the Android app comes with critical bug fix that was causing the app to crash.
