2024-2025 Meta will release 799-1199 dollar Meta Quest Pro 2 headset which has almost as good specs as Vision Pro but still lower price than Regular Vision headset which could cost 1499-2499 dollars and then there is Quest 3 launching later this year for 499 dollars which does not have eyetracking etc but has most core functionals that would make it great choice for regular people who want to enjoy games, movies, social features etc.
There is also rumors for Meta to release Quest 3 “lite” without proper controllers(which you will have to buy if you want to play more hardcore games but for regular usage those cameras on the headset give fine interaction) in 2024-2025 which would replace Quest 2 which will be sold with Quest 3 at lower price.
I bet Apples game plan is to release Vision Pro to make foundation for future VR, AR and smart headsets, glasses and then launch cheaper regular Vision model and those sweet Apple Glass(™) for 499 dollars(needs constant connection to expensive latest iPhone to work and is not true “AR”.
Rumors say that Meta will release smart glasses like upcoming Apple glass 2025 which will have EMG wristdevice for interacting and typing and then proper AR glasses for 2027 with gen 2 EMG Wristdevice.

Given how poor the market has been for “normal” VR at “normal” prices (Meta and Playstation’s headsets are sub $500, and even the Valve Index is only $1k), I truly doubt this project will last long enough for us to get an “affordable” VR headset from Apple. Yes, there may be enterprise applications that could demand such a price, but all those businesses will end up using Microsoft HoloLens. If you just want to watch adult content on the train, you can put your phone in a $5 cardboard box. There is no reason to spend as much as a used car on a product with no real use case, let alone one that can justify the cost.

As much as I love the Vision Pro and the fact that people who got to use it praise its technology, the price is extreme. I understand why, though, and a more affordable Vision device will definitely change things.

It is a ‘ portable’ device that only has 2 hrs battery autonomy. It needs to last longer unplugged otherwise what’s the point of it being portable if you’re dependent on a plug socket? And cheaper obviously.
