The IAM Local 933 Women’s Committee in Tucson, Ariz., partnered with Aviva Children’s Services for their annual Backpack Drive. The event provided backpacks filled with school supplies and uniforms to local foster children in need.

For over 40 years, Aviva Children’s Services has worked to fulfill its mission to improve the quality of life for children who are victims of neglect, abuse and poverty and are in the care of Arizona’s Department of Child Safety (DCS).

The Women’s Committee of Local Lodge 933 participation was part of the Maria Santiago Lillis Advocacy Day – A Commitment to Serve (ACTS) to honor Santiago Lillis’ tireless fight for workers’ rights, human rights, and social justice.

“It was so rewarding to see the joy and excitement on the children’s faces as they received their backpacks,” said members of the Women’s Committee. “We are so glad we could partner with Aviva to make this event possible.”

The event was a huge success, and over 500 backpacks were distributed to children in need. The Women’s Committee was grateful to help make a difference in the lives of these children.

“The efforts of Local Lodge 933’s Women’s Committee serve as a shining example of the IAM Western Territory’s unwavering commitment to our communities, and we applaud their remarkable work in making a brighter tomorrow for our youth,” said IAM Western Territory General Vice President Gary R. Allen. “Their unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of local foster children through the annual Backpack Drive with Aviva Children’s Services is honorable. Providing backpacks filled with school supplies and uniforms empowers these young minds with the tools and confidence they need to embrace their education and future.”

The Women’s Committee looks forward to working with Aviva again next year. They are committed to helping provide essential supplies to children in foster care so that they can start the school year off on the right foot.
