Ascension St. Vincent working to fix cyber attack, but issues remain | #ransomware | #cybercrime

EVANSVILLE – Weeks after a cyber attack roiled Ascension St. Vincent’s electronic records system, the hospital chain says it’s working “expeditiously” with cybersecurity experts to correct the problem.

According to a Tuesday morning news release, officials hope to have electronic access by the end of next week. Patients can still access care as usual, but should expect much longer wait times.

Patients in Evansville and all across St. Vincent’s 140-hospital nationwide system have been enduring slower service and sporadic issues filling prescriptions since May 8, when Ascension noticed suspicious activity in its computer systems.

Officials immediately “activated our remediation efforts,” the chain told the Courier & Press in a statement last month, and checked to see if any sensitive information had been compromised.
