A 17-year-old boy who was shot to death in Little Village Monday morning has been identified, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Jorge Cruz was killed about a block from where he lived in Little Village, according to the medical examiner’s office. He was a sophomore at Farragut Career Academy High School, according to preliminary police information.

About 10:15 a.m. Monday, Cruz and a female friend were walking north in the 2700 block of South Drake Avenue when they heard gunshots and dropped to the ground, police said. Cruz was shot in the head and died at the scene, police said.

It was believed someone fired a rifle from the driver’s side of a passing vehicle, according to preliminary police information. Police were looking for a vehicle believed to be a white Chevrolet Cruze, according to the information.
