MOMENCE – Baker & Taylor is working to restore systems after the company confirmed this week it was a victim of a randomwear attack more than a week ago.

According to the company, Baker & Taylor was hit by the attack August 23rd when servers went down and an outage affected a variety of systems including phones; office and service centers.

The company has confirmed it brought in outside assistance to work with existing IT teams and is “working around the clock” to repair disruptions from the incident.  Baker & Taylor did not comment if disruptions have affected employee hours at any of its distribution centers.

The identity of the attacker behind the randomwear is currently unknown. Baker & Taylor announced Saturday phones are once again operational and other services are working to come back online.

“As we continue our recovery efforts, we understand that you may be concerned about whether it is safe for you to interact with Baker & Taylor electronically.” The company said in a statement Saturday. “We expect additional systems to come online shortly. But consistent with our approach, we will not bring them up until we are confident in their security.”

Baker & Taylor was founded in 1828 and works as one of the world leaders in distributing books to more than 5,000 libraries worldwide.

Over 500 employees work at the Momence plant located at 501 S. Gladiolus St. making it one of Kankakee County’s largest employers.
