Be Safe Be seen-Hylands School takes part in Road Safety Week. – The Havering Daily | #schoolsaftey

This is ‘Road Safety Week’, from 19 to 25 November.Around 28,000 people will likely be injured on roads in the Greater London Area this year, some 3,000 of whom will be killed or seriously injured.

Pat Farrell, Coop Member Pioneer and Christopher Saunders, Funeral Director at Coop’s North Street, Romford Branch recently spoke to St Albans ward Councillor Jane Keane, informing her that they had 650 ‘Be Safe, Be Seen’ ‘reflective armbands to donate to young children in the Borough, where she recommended contacting Hyland’s School.

Pat, Christopher and Cllr Keane were delighted to meet Mr Steve Bowers, Headteacher, along with two of his Year 6 Ambassadors, Mia and Ela, on Wednesday 22nd November, where they presented the armbands and were taken on a guided tour of the lovely school by the two ambassadors.

Mr Bowers said: ‘The children at Hylands have been involved in various activities to mark Road Safety Week’. He said, ‘The armbands are gratefully received and will be distributed to children at their assembly on Friday’.

Cllr Keane is Havering’s member of The London Road Safety Council. A London borough-wide organisation whose aim is to reduce needless road casualties.

The Council is unique in London, in that it has a membership of elected council members and professional road safety officers from the London boroughs. Transport for London (TfL) and other stakeholders, including the Metropolitan Police and City of London Police forces, are also represented.

Cllr Keane talked about the high level of traffic in surrounding roads, especially Brentwood Road, and how dangerous it is for school children and parents alike, especially when motorists speed around school zones and what we can do to keep ourselves safe, especially during the long, dark nights ahead. Wearing reflective armbands is a very effective way to be seen.
