Belpre BOE honors sports teams, band; recognizes School Bus Safety Week | News, Sports, Jobs | #schoolsaftey

BELPRE — The Belpre City School District recognized several school sports teams and the band as well as National School Bus Safety Week during its October Board of Education meeting Thursday.

During the Treasurer’s Report, Treasurer Lance Erlwein recognized the success of the Belpre High School Cross Country Invitational.

“We still have some receipts out, but according to the report so far, we’ve cleared $5,500 from the Invitational,” Erlwein said. “We had about 800 to 1,000 people out there for the event that were utilizing our restaurants and our park. It was great for the teams and it was great for Belpre.”

Board President Brenda Church reported on the Superintendent and Administrator Report prior to Superintendent Jeff Greenley’s arrival. Church acknowledged National School Bus Safety Week, occurring Oct. 16- 20.

“It’s a challenging job and they tread rough terrain,” Church said of the school district bus drivers. “But we greatly appreciate them.”

Once Greenley arrived, he recognized several sports teams including the band and their recent accomplishments so far this school year.

“The soccer team won their sectional and advanced, the marching band will be attending two state competitions and we are thrilled,” he saidy. “The football team also plays this week and the girls won their TVC. It’s outstanding and excellent.”

Board Vice President Cathy O’ Donnell also acknowledged the 8th grade Gardening Club and the High School Botany Club for their recent work cleaning up Civitan Park.

“They worked hard in the park,” O’ Donnell said. “Kudos to them.”

The board voted to accept the following donations: $200 from Power Ad to Athletics; $62 from parents to Cross Country; $2,000 from Orion Engineered Carbons to BE Principal Fund; $600 from Aaron’s Towing and Recovery to Athletics (admissions sponsor); $251.40 from Iced Up to Cross Country; and $777.03 from WV Central Federal Credit Union to BHS S.T.E.A.M. Fund.

The next regular Belpre City Schools Board of Education meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Stone Administration Building/Early Learning Center in the gymnasium.
