An Oakland County judge issued a bench warrant this week after an accused sex offender failed to show up for his trial.

Maher Haddad, 47, is charged with first-degree home invasion, second-degree criminal sexual conduct and capturing the image of an unclothed person for an alleged Feb. 9 incident in the 700 block of Fox Hills Drive.

Trial got underway June 15, continued the next day and was to resume June 20 following the weekend and Juneteenth holiday. But when Haddad didn’t return Tuesday, Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren issued a bench warrant, ordering him to surrender and explain his reason for not showing up. Warren also ordered forfeiture of the $10,000 bond posted on behalf – 10 percent of a $100,000 bond. Warren’s order states that if Haddad doesn’t surrender within 28 days and isn’t excused for noncompliance, the 10 percent provision for his bond will be revoked. That will put the bond at the full amount, and Haddad will also face additional costs.
