Board tackles organizational items | News, Sports, Jobs | #schoolsaftey

FAIRMONT– The Fairmont School Board held a brief meeting, followed by a strategic planning session, in the William Budd Room at Fairmont Elementary School on Tuesday. Moving forward all future meetings will be held in the Budd Room, rather than council chambers at Fairmont City Hall.

Superintendent Andy Traetow provided a buildings and grounds update and detailed some of the projects the district is engaged in.

“If you’ve driven by our junior/senior high school, you’ll see some dirt being moved and action outside with our entrance projects at the gymnasium as well as the athletic field,” Traetow said.

He said some light construction is happening inside the high school main office and the serving line in the elementary cafeteria is also getting reworked. As for the softball field house project, Traetow said the plans are currently at the local city level and that the district is hoping to move forward with it this week yet.

“We have the 11 month walk through of the CTE (Career and Technical Education) building coming up. We’re continuing to finalize things there,” Traetow said.

During the course of the meeting, the board took care of a number of organizational items as it was the first meeting of the new school year, which started on July 1 for the district.

— Kim Niss as 504 coordinator.

— Brooke Schultz as federal programs administrator.
