Bristol sex offender sentenced to 27 years in federal prison | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

A registered sex offender from Bristol was sentenced Monday in federal court in New York to 27 years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s office for the Northern District of New York announced that David Feeney, 57, was sentenced to 327 months, or 27 ¼ years.

U.S. District Judge Brenda K. Sannes also ordered that Feeney remain on supervised release for the remainder of his life once released.

In January, Feeney pleaded guilty to one count of attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

According to court documents, between March 16 and April 24, 2022, Feeney communicated with two undercover officers posing as an adult father and his 10-year-old daughter. Feeney attempted to coerce the minor to engage in sexual activity, documents say.

On April 24, 2022, Feeney traveled to a home in New York with the intent of engaging in sexual acts with the child and was arrested shortly after arriving, according to court documents. Feeney was already a registered sex offender, stemming from the rape of a child he met online in 2011.

In their sentencing memorandums, the government and defense asked the judge to impose the 327-month sentence, with the defense only requesting that Feeney be placed in a facility that provides sex offender treatment and is as close to Bristol as possible.

The defense wrote that the trauma Feeney has caused has a direct connection to trauma he experienced as a child.

According to the memorandum, Feeney grew up without knowing his biological father and was physically abused by his stepfather. Around the time he was 13 years old, Feeney began being sexually abused by a neighbor, who also offered up Feeney to other adults for sexual gratification, the memorandum continues.

Feeney never told anyone about the abuse because the neighbor threatened to kill his mother, the defense wrote. He escaped the abuse by joining the Air Force at 18, and he later became a nurse and married. Still, he led a double life, seeking others for sexual encounters, according to the memorandum.

Feeney’s experiences do not excuse his behavior but offer some explanation, the defense wrote.
