Live music may still be on pause, but in the meantime, The Governors Ball Music Festival folks are actively engaging the virtual music scene. In partnership with Montauk’s Surf Lodge and dating app Bumble, a free two-day “Endless Summer” concert series is happening this holiday weekend, albeit in your living room.
Australian breakout artist Tones and I (“Dance Monkey”) and legendary performer Gary Clark Jr. will headline the digital event, which is being held in place of the Surf Lodge’s annual Labor Day weekend concert series. The show supports the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization that aims “to end mass incarceration, excessive punishment, and racial inequality.” Virtual gig goers will have the opportunity to shop an athletic clothing line designed by model Jacquelyn Jablonski; 100% of proceeds from the event capsule collection will be donated.
And what about GovBall 2021? No word yet, but it’s probably a good sign to see the GovBall team actively working with New York event spaces, despite the restrictions of COVID. Fingers crossed.
The “Endless Summer” performances will be streaming via The Surf Lodge, Bumble, and Governors Ball YouTube channels, as well as other streaming options.
