Bunnings item flying off shelves after TikTok hack goes viral | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

An Australian woman’s DIY hack has gone viral on TikTok, causing a mad rush for a seemingly innocuous item at Bunnings.

Victorian Maddy Ryan is one of many with a Frank Green reusable 1L water bottle  – great for you, great for the environment, right?

Not if you have to take it in the car, though, because larger water bottles simply won’t fit in standard cup holders.

“Work smarter not harder,” Ryan captioned the video on TikTok, which showed a Bunnings receipt for a 100 x 65mm PVC DWV Taper Level Invert which slotted perfectly into the car’s cup holder and held her oversized water bottle perfectly.

The video has amassed 2.1 million views in under 24 hours.

Ryan admitted she purchased the wrong size initially, which many viewers pointed out after pausing to read her receipt.

“Guyssss [sic] I know I bought the wrong size the first time- but this is a PVC Taper Level invert. Size is 100x65mm,” Ryan responded.

Whilst purpose-made inserts can be purchased for anywhere up to $78, the tapered PVC piping cost just $11.05.

“When Bunnings staff will be wondering why they are selling out of these,” one commenter noted, while another said their local store was “already” out of stock.

“Then a plumber will need one to fix someone’s blocked toilet and can’t get it done as there are none left,” joked another.

Many, though, simply said they were off to Bunnings for their own hacked drink holder.

While many stated they would be using it for their Frank Green bottles – and some said they wanted to purchase one purely to use the hack – it works with just about any 1-litre reusable canister.
