KANPUR: A businessman died by suicide after allegedly hacking his five-year-old son to death and injuring his wife and other members of the family in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district on Sunday morning.
Police said the man had written a suicide note on a WhatsApp group wherein he stated that he suffered a major loss in business and now he has no option.
The incident took place in Ratanpur village under Jahanganj police station.
Dinesh Yadav (35) was a maize supplier. He had an argument with his wife Meena (29) late Saturday night.
They had been calmed down by their family members. However, he had another argument with his wife around 4am. The argument escalated to the point that he assaulted his wife with a helicopter. When his wife passed out, he chopped their five-year-old son Ocean to death in his sleep. Hearing the screaming, the accused’s three children Divya (11), Anshi (10), Pranshi (8), and his sister Sheetla (22) awoke. When they intervened, he attacked them too.
Anshi and Sheetla were injured in the attack. Before people could nab him, he ran away from the house and died by suicide by hanging himself from a nearby ‘Jamun’ tree.
Village head Satish Yadav alerted the police.
Subsequently, the police rushed to the spot, took the body of the child into custody and sent it for postmortem. The injured Meena and the other child of Dinesh and his sister were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Superintendent of police Vikas Kumar reached the spot and supervised the investigation. The forensic team collected evidence from the spot.
SP said, “As per Dinesh’s family members, he had a fight with his wife Meena over some issue. Later, he hacked his five-year-old son to death and injured his wife and other child using a chopper. After this, the accused died by suicide by hanging himself from a ‘Jamun’ tree”.
The SP further said that during the investigation, it had come to the fore that he had sent some message in the village’s WhatsApp group, which was related to some kind of monetary issue.
“All the aspects are being investigated. Whoever is guilty, action will be taken against him/her,” the SP added.
