RED BLUFF, Calif. – The jury trial is scheduled to begin Friday for the man convicted in the infamous ‘Girl in the Box’ case in Tehama County.
The trial for Cameron Hooker will be held in San Mateo County. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Redwood City.
His original trial was moved there due to pre-trial publicity. It’s expected to last two weeks.
In 1985 Hooker was sentenced to 74 years for kidnapping, raping, and torturing Colleen Stan over several years at his home in Red Bluff. Stan testified Hooker would confine her for long periods in a wooden box under his bed. The story was retold in movies and books.
In this new trial, prosecutors are trying to have Hooker designated as a sexually violent predator to keep him from being released from prison.
