CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio — At its Nov. 13 meeting, Village Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the village and the Chagrin Falls Exempted Village School District to deploy a school safety officer to Chagrin Falls Intermediate School.
The new position will be filled by a Chagrin Falls police officer who would work full-time at the school. While employed as the school safety officer, the officer could also work off-duty security details.
Police Chief Amber Dacek said an official hiring announcement will be made in the near future. Candidates will be required to have three years of law enforcement experience and a current OPOTA Commission.
Once the candidate is vetted and trained by the Chagrin Falls Police Department, the Chagrin Falls Board of Education would also have to approve the new hire.
The new full-time school safety officer will have the same schedule as the school calendar and will earn $69,867 per year with benefits and personal time off. Both the salary and benefits would be paid for by the village, then reimbursed by the school district.
Gurney Elementary School is also looking to add a school safety officer position, but that new position will be hired through the South Russell Police Department.
