The Chesterfield Township Department of Public Safety will conduct multi-agency active shooter training this week at Great Oaks Elementary School on 24 Mile Road.
Chesterfield Township police officers, firefighters and EMS crews, along with Medstar, will take part in exercises to train on various active shooter tactics and scenarios from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Police, fire, and EMS personnel will be moving teams throughout the building into various shooter scenarios and mock triage areas.
The training exercises will focus on emergency responses to an active shooter incident and will involve simulations of the law enforcement response plan to an active shooter. They will also help assure a coordinated, timely and effective response and recovery in the event of a major incident.
By having all police, fire, and medical units partner for highly realistic scenarios, the Chesterfield Township Department of Public Safety hopes to be better prepared for any real-life incidents that may occur in the township.
Residents who live in the area can expect to see first responder vehicles converge on the parking lot and nearby roadways of the school as part of the training.
The entire school property, including the playground and basketball court, will be closed to the public during the training times. At no time will the public be able to view the training, and spectators will not be allowed near the area.
Great Oaks Elementary School is located at 32900 24 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township.
