UPDATE 6/22/2023: Brian S. Spicuzza, a 48-year-old resident of Leonardtown, MD, has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for his involvement in the sexual abuse of a minor. The Honorable Joseph M. Stanalonis released the severe sentence on Friday, June 16, 2023. Spicuzza was found guilty of multiple charges, including second-degree rape and sexual offense in the third degree.
The defendant received a 25-year sentence for sexual abuse of a minor and four counts of second-degree rape resulting in 20 years each, suspended to ten years each. In addition, Spicuzza was given a ten-year sentence for sexual offense in the third degree, to be served consecutively with the other charges. This brings the total sentence to 115 years, with 75 years to be served actively in the Division of Corrections.
Following his release from prison, Spicuzza will be placed on five years of supervised probation with lifetime sex offender supervision. He must also register as a sex offender on the sexual offender registry for the remainder of his life. Moreover, the court ordered him to have no contact with any minors, including the victims involved in this case.
The conviction resulted from Spicuzza’s crimes against a minor child that occurred between January 2020 and February 2021 at his residence. A St. Mary’s County jury deliberated on the evidence presented during the trial, ultimately finding the defendant guilty of the charges.
