Child Protection, Government Schools, Chairperson, Facilities, Integration, Education Department: After Launch, School Safety App In Limbo | | #childsafety | #kids | #chldern | #parents | #schoolsafey

Chandigarh: Nearly two months after announcement of its inception, the Heerakshi social audit app, which is designed to monitor child safety measures in schools, is still in the process of change. The app, which was expected to become functional by the end of this year, aims to track the progress made by schools in enhancing child protection.
The department of social welfare mandated a safety audit in all government schools in the wake of a tree falling at Carmel Convent School in 2022, killing a student, Heerakshi. Two months ago, on the final day as chairperson, former head of CCPCR introduced the Heerakshi Social Audit app. Its primary objective was to make a thorough assessment of various facilities on school premises.
The app is still non-functional, possibly due to the chairperson’s position being vacant for some time. Sources said that despite advisories providing IDs and usernames, schools have been slow to adopt the system. However, new chairperson Shipra Bansal clarified that efforts are underway to address technicalities concerning the app’s integration with all the 111 schools and relevant departments.
On the other hand, many teachers have only heard of the app’s name. An anonymous source from the education department said, “Such audits are important if they bring tangible outcomes and positive changes, otherwise there is no efficacy of such initiatives if they do not lead to real improvements.” tnn
