Child rapist who ‘takes no responsibility’ for abusing 3 kids will spend decades in prison | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

A man convicted of abusing three 4 to 7-year-old children showed no remorse in court Wednesday as a Lancaster County judge sentenced him to up to 52 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Geraldo Maldonado, 40, of Lancaster, was deemed a sexually violent predator and must register as a sex offender for life, in addition to serving 24–52 years in prison, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Maldonado abused the children for at least six years. One of the victims testified against Maldonado during a May trial.

Maldonado’s attorneys said during the trial that the victims’ testimony was inconsistent and that they were conspiring against him. But prosecutors argued it didn’t make sense for the victims to suddenly seek revenge for incidents that took place in 2008.

A jury later found him guilty of rape, aggravated indecent assault, and related offenses. He was facing up to 176 years in prison.

“He was supposed to have a relationship with [the victims] and he abused and took advantage of them,” Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Ponessa said. “They’re ready to heal. Justice has been served. The defendant takes no responsibility at all.”

Judge Merrill Spahn said Maldonado wrote him a letter before his sentencing, in which he said, “his own blood turned on him and the justice system failed him.”

Spahn told Maldonado on Wednesday, “You are the one that failed and turned on your family.”
