Ensuring the safety of young passengers on the road takes center stage as Bossier City hosts a Child Safety Seat Check Event on Saturday, March 23, 2024. From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., concerned parents and caregivers are invited to attend this crucial event held at Willis-Knighton Bossier Medical Center, located at 2400 Hospital Dr.

The event, aimed at promoting proper child safety seat usage, will provide free safety checks for car seats and booster seats. No appointments are required, and the event will proceed regardless of weather conditions.

While car seats and booster seats are designed to safeguard children in the event of a crash, statistics reveal that approximately three out of four child seats are used incorrectly. The misuse of these safety devices can be attributed to the wide array of available options and the diversity of vehicles in today’s market. It is a concern that transcends race, education levels, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), properly used child restraints have saved over 11,000 lives in the past three decades. This underscores the critical responsibility of caregivers to ensure that children are securely restrained in appropriate safety seats, booster seats, or seat belts whenever they travel in a vehicle.

Certified technicians will be on hand at the event to provide guidance and assistance to parents and caregivers, ensuring that child safety seats are installed correctly and securely. For those unable to attend, Louisiana State Police Patrol Troops serve as certified child passenger safety checkup stations and offer assistance with proper seat installation. For more information on technician locations in your area, visit the LHSC website.

The Child Safety Seat Check Event is a valuable opportunity for parents and caregivers to prioritize the safety of their young passengers. By ensuring that child safety seats are used correctly, we can all contribute to safer travels for our children on the roads.
