ROSCOE, Ill. — A man has been arrested for endangering a child’s safety after a firearm accidentally went off in a Roscoe home. 

On October 26 at 1:32 p.m., Roscoe Police received calls regarding a child with a gunshot wound in the 10000 block of Bitterroot Road in Roscoe.

During the initial investigation, law enforcement found that a firearm was accidentally discharged by a family member inside of the home, which hit the child in the leg. 

The child was taken by ambulance to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

34-year-old Richard Heimer was arrested at the scene on the charge of Endangering the Life and Health of a Child.

No additional suspects are involved with the incident. There is no danger to the public, but the investigation is ongoing.
