The 47th annual Joy Campaign hosted by OIMZION International Global Ministries & Missions is set for July 22 and 23. The event will begin at 10 a.m. July 22 and a worship service is set for 11 a.m. the next day at 106 W. 2nd St. in Plainivew. There will be a three-on-three basketball tournament, kids clothing and toys giveaway, child safety seat giveaway, a water slide, dunk tank, face painting, a variety of vendors, bounce houses, sweet treats and other family-friendly activities. There will also be a backpack and school supply giveaway.
The Wayland Baptist University Mabee Learning Resource Center and Abraham Art Gallery is temporarily closed due to high temperatures in the building. It’s unclear when exactly they will reopen.

The City of Plainview encourages citizens to mow their lawns. Maintaining your lawn is required by city ordinance. If a property owner receives a one-time certified notice to cut the tall grass or weeds on their property, they have 10 days to correct the violation, according to a news release from the City of Plainview. If there is no compliance, city staff will mow it at the owner’s expense.

Texas Department of Transportation is working on a project to improve traffic signals around Plainview. The work includes improvements along US 70 at the intersections with Ash, Date, Joliet, Columbia, Broadway, Ennis, Canyon and Yonkers Streets. Work is anticipated to wrap up in January, weather permitting.

American Cultural Exchange Services is seeking families to host foreign exchange students for the 2023-2024 school year. The high school kids are academically sound with musical and sports talents and languages. Students will arrive in August. They do not require their own room. They will also share in chore responsibilities and help around the house as much as needed. The students have full medical coverage and spending money for their own personal needs.
