TEMECULA, CA — California Highway Patrol officers stationed in Temecula want to give Southwest Riverside County parents peace of mind when traveling with small kids. To that end, the CHP is offering free child safety seat inspections this weekend.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the CHP Temecula Area office, 27685 Commerce Center Drive in Temecula.

The CHP’s specially trained safety seat technicians will check motorists’ child safety seats and will offer instructions on how to properly install them, according to the agency.

Saturday’s event will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“The California Highway Patrol would like to remind parents and caregivers that an unrestrained child in a car is at significant risk of injury or death in the event of a traffic collision. Protect your children by using age-appropriate passenger restraint devices,” the agency said. “All children 8 years or younger must be properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat in the back seat of a vehicle. Children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing, age-appropriate child safety seat in the rear seat. Your child’s life depends on that car seat.”

For more information about the Sept. 16 event, contact CHP Officer Mike Lassig at 951-506-2000.

Funding for Saturday’s event was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the CHP said.
