Christie’s Says Hackers Stole “Limited” Client Data | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #hacker

Christie’s said that “limited” personal data for some clients—none of it financial-related—was breached in a website hack it suffered two weeks ago.

The hack knocked the auction house’s site offline for a week and forced Christie’s to postpone its May 13 Rare Watches auction in Geneva by a day.

On Tuesday, CEO Guillaume Cerutti acknowledged on LinkedIn that the hackers had gained unauthorized access to certain parts of Christie’s network, allowing them to steal “a limited amount of personal data.”

“There is no evidence of any financial or transactional data related to our clients or to Christie’s being taken or copied,” Cerutti wrote. “Communications with affected clients will be underway in the next 48 hours.”

He said the company is complying with all its government and regulatory obligations and has notified privacy regulators.

Cerutti noted that Christie’s auctions are proceeding as usual, both online and live. He called its May 27 jewelry sale in Hong Kong “very successful,” with its headline item, a Cartier Tutti Frutti necklace, selling for $8.7 million.
