
On Monday, the Collier County Board of Education approved the use of the new textbook for the next academic year.
Some parents and community members opposed the book, saying it taught the beliefs of critical racial theory recently banned by the state board of education.
The board decided not to hear these dissenting opinions from the community on Monday and finally approved the book voted in April.
Board members maintain that the new textbook never teaches critical racial theory.
