STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – Family members, friends and students gathered in a large socially-distant circle in the field behind Bessie Weller Elementary School in Staunton to remember the life of Maegan Hoy.

According to Virginia State Police, Hoy died on October 24 after being involved in an ATV crash in Augusta County.

Hoy, 38, was a fifth-grade teacher.

On Thursday, family, friends, students and colleagues shared some of their fondest moments with Hoy and lit candles in her honor.

“She smiled 24/7. She had the most positive attitude in the face of any difficulty or issues. I mean, she was just, I’ll roll with it, that was her. We went through hundreds of pictures and we couldn’t find one where she wasn’t smiling,” Richard Fletcher, the principal of Bessie Weller Elementary, said.

Those interested in donating to the Maegan Hoy Helping Hands Memorial Fund are encouraged to contact school officials at Bessie Weller by calling 540-332-3940.
