The Computer Forensic Examiner will provide consulting and technical services as a Computer Forensic Examiner. Responsible for managing Forensics and Collections projects as assigned by the DFIR Lab Manager. Perform daily tasks associated with forensic and electronic discovery client engagements. Responsible for augmenting and strengthening personal forensic skill set, as well as other team members to enhance the company’s forensics service offering(s).
Apply industry accepted principles in retrieving, recovering and preserving digital evidence from mobile devices, workstations, servers and cloud based sources
Perform administrative tasks necessary to manage direct reports – time and expense entry and approval, performance reviews and feedback, career development, etc.
Create a positive environment by monitoring workloads of the team while meeting client expectations and respecting the work‐life quality of team members; providing candid, meaningful feedback in a timely manner; and keeping leadership informed of progress and issues
Collaborate with corporate clients, law firms, and government agencies to preserve, harvest, and process electronic data according to UnitedLex policies and practices
Perform in-depth digital computer forensic examinations with the use of Cellebrite, Encase, Encase Enterprise and/or FTK of personal computers, data storage systems and mobile devices with highly complex findings explained in understandable terms
Serve as a communication facilitator and translators on complex issues between Client Legal and IT teams and UnitedLex Project Managers and Consultants working to provide creative and innovative client solutions
Produce high quality oral and written work product presenting complex technical matters clearly and concisely
Form and articulate expert opinions to provide expert testimony in depositions, trials, and other proceedings
Consult with and take direction from supervisors, engagement managers, and clients regarding case investigation and status
Reviews new products to keep abreast of the latest information and technology available and studies computer literature, attends seminars/training
Must hold EnCase Certified Examiner credentials or Certified Computer Examiner (CCE) or equivalent
Proficient with forensic techniques and the most commonly used forensic toolsets, such as IEF, EnCase, and FTK Suite
Evidence of excellent collaborative skills and self-improvement
Have at least 5 years of IT/computer programing experience, with a minimum of 3 years working specifically on e-discovery related forensic activities
Effective and diplomatic written and oral communication, with demonstrated strong research, analytical, and writing skills
Deep working experience with common e-mail systems, including: Microsoft Exchange Server, IBM Lotus Domino Server, GroupWise, Email Archiving solutions, and webmail services (Gmail, Yahoo, O365, etc.)
Complete understanding of computer networking, including Windows Server administration, network administration, protocols, and security
Experience administering and analyzing common computer operating systems (Windows and Mac OS)
Advanced experience collecting from and analyzing Mobile Devices (iOS and Android)
Thorough understanding of chain of custody procedures, forensic lab best practices, and evidence handling
Able to work off hours and travel both domestically and internationally on short notice
Qualify as an expert witness in computer forensic examination
Knowledge and experience regarding all phases of a legal discovery project – preservation, collection
