Controlled School Safety Drill in Watkins Glen Today – Finger Lakes Daily News | #schoolsaftey

On Thursday, the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, Watkins Glen Police Department, Schuyler County Emergency Management Office, Watkins Glen Central School District, and NYS Department of Homeland Security are collaborating to conduct a controlled school safety drill at Watkins Glen Central School to enhance emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of students and staff. There will also be participation from other surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The purpose of this exercise is to evaluate the effectiveness of emergency response procedures, communication protocols, and coordination among first responders and school personnel in the event of a crisis situation. The drill will simulate a hypothetical scenario, and all participants will follow established safety protocols. This drill will be conducted after regular school hours.

Parents, community members, and nearby residents are advised that this event is a planned exercise and not a real emergency. There will be an increased presence of law enforcement and emergency vehicles in the vicinity of the school during the drill. Traffic disruptions are not anticipated, but please plan accordingly. The safety and security of students and staff are of utmost importance, and exercises like this help us continuously improve our response to potential emergencies.

If you have any questions, please contact the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office at (607) 535-8222.
