A Bingham man is once again facing sexual assault charges involving a child.The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office says Christopher Cates, 48, is charged with unlawful sexual contact, visual sexual aggression of a child, unlawful sexual touching and indecent contact. The charges follow an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that happened in the town of Moscow and involved two girls under the age of 14.Police say Cates has been convicted of at least seven sex offenses in a 10-year span, including unlawful sexual contact, indecent conduct and prohibited contact with a child under the age of 14. His most recent conviction was in November 2021. His record includes an incident from 2016 when multiple women say Cates attacked them.According to the Maine Sex Offender Registry, he is a Tier 3 registrant and must be registered for life.
