The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a couple who allegedly forged and cashed a nearly $1,000 check at a Mount Hope bank days before Christmas.
On Dec. 15, the couple reportedly entered the Fayette County National Bank and used a stolen driver’s license and debit card to obtain a $950 counter check, which they forged and cashed, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident started about two months earlier, when the male allegedly stole a Fayette County resident’s wallet, which contained a social security card, debit and credit cards on the West side of Charleston, the sheriff’s office said.
While the victim reported the theft to the proper law enforcement agencies, notified the credit card companies and credit reporting bureaus, the alleged suspects made numerous purchases at Lowe’s through the southern part of the state, including Charleston, South Charleston, Barboursville, Nitro and Huntington. They purchased Christmas inflatables and numerous gift cards. They also used the victim’s driver’s license and social security card to open new credit card accounts under the name “Brooke Dean” of 836 Amity Dr., Charleston.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with knowledge of these crime or suspects, to contact Crime Stoppers at (304) 574-4216, or submit a tip through the department’s Facebook page “Fayette County Sheriff’ Department.”
