The Rancho Bernardo Community Council is seeking candidates for its June election.
In order to be eligible, candidates must be at least 18 years old, have lived in Rancho Bernardo for six months and have attended a least one council meeting prior to the June election.
The council meets monthly at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday in the Seven Oaks Community Center, 16789 Bernardo Oaks Drive. Remaining meetings before the April 30 filing deadline for candidates to declare are on March 12 and April 2.

Candidates run in the district in which they live and residents only vote in their district’s race. Descriptions of the seven districts are on the candidacy form. Terms are two years.
Voting will occur at the council’s booth during the RB Alive! Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7 and at the RB Library on from 9 a.m. through noon Saturday, June 13, per the election rules.
The 20-member, all-volunteer group deals with the community’s quality of life issues. These include maintenance of several medians and the welcome signs, public safety, code compliance, government relations, traffic, utilities and graffiti. Projects have included renovations of Fire Station No. 33, utility box painting, battery recycling, AED and hearing aid initiatives, free CPR training and water bill issues.
The council has organized several educational events, including those on stranger danger, scams, living with coyotes and cyber bullying. It has also hosted the annual Chalk It Up! sidewalk chalk art competition, community safety fair, Earth Day fair, Patriotic Pet Contest, hot cocoa with Santa and Community Flag competition.
